Requirements For the Ontario Secondary School Diploma
In order to earn an Ontario Secondary School Diploma, a student must earn a minimum of 30 credits, including 18 compulsory credits and 12 optional credits. Students must also successfully complete the provincial Grade 10 Test of Reading and Writing Skill and 40 hours of community involvement activities.
University Level Credit
Students wishing to enter university must hold an OSSD that includes at least six Grade 12 Pre-university credits. Students whose first language is not English must provide an English test score (TOEFL, IELTS, Michigan)
The Credit System
A credit is granted in recognition of the successful completion of a course that has been scheduled for a minimum of 110 hours of classroom instruction. A credit is granted to a student by the college principal on behalf of the Minister of Education.
