Honda Trip Report Cui Yufei On 26 February 2009, The Great Lakes College of Toronto organised a field trip to the Honda Production Plant for select students. After a relatively uneventful hour and a half ride by bus, the excited students were greeted by a gargantuan complex that, as they would eventually learn, assembles an astonishing 800 cars per day. Following a brief but insightful introduction by the ever-friendly Lisa, a member of the service department in the Honda plant, the students were instructed to put on safety goggles and a microphone headset. When all preparations were done, the restless students were guided into the production plant proper. Once inside, fascination took over as it was the first time for a majority of them to witness the grandeur of an automobile assembly line. However, good behaviour was still the order of the day as care was taken to ensure the safety of the students and the workers alike. The dedicated professionalism of the workers and the incredible efficiency of the robots had certainly left a lasting impression on many of the students. Despite the short walkthrough that lasted exactly forty minutes, it was an excellent learning experience for the group from GLCT. The knowledge gained would certainly serve to aid the learners in their future endeavours. |
